What is a CIC?
Clinical Research Centers (CRCs) are clinical research facilities made available to investigators and researchers within hospitalsto carry out clinical and health research projects. CICs have staff and facilities entirely dedicated to clinical research. These may include projects aimed at better understand a disease. They may also involve projects evaluating new treatments.
Established in 1992 through a joint initiative of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and the General Directorate for Healthcare Provision (DGOS), they provide investigators (researchers, clinicians, etc.) with the resources to strengthen and promote the application of basic research findings for the benefit of patients. The primary objective of the CICs is the generation of new medical scientific data, produced under optimal conditions and in compliance with international quality and safety standards.
CICs are governed by two overseeing bodies: the DGOS, through the affiliated hospital, and INSERM.
The CIC Neurosciences, established in 1995, is a clinical research platform dedicated to diseases of the nervous system. It is located in the Institut du Cerveau (ICM) building at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris.
